NJRA Puyallup

by LizStabbert on May 5, 2012

So this year I’m shooting all the NJRA rodeos and I’m totally pumped. The first event of the year was in Puyallup during the Spring Fair. The fact that I managed not to gorge myself on fair food was nothing short of a miracle…though if we’re being totally honest it had a lot to do with the food booths being a REALLY long walk from where the rodeo was held ;) Speaking of which, the rodeo was held in the fairground’s covered arena, which is pretty dark by photography standards so I brought out the big guns! Or, lights to be accurate ;)

See those serious double shadows on the wall behind our heeler there? See how you can actually see the subject though they were all the way across the arena? That’s my pair of studio lights doing their thing. I heart them.

Those ones weren’t taken with the new lights, but with my trusty Speedlight a Canon 430 ex ii (but you can see my new babies in the background of that last goat roping pic :) )

I really had a blast meeting everyone and shooting a lot of events for the first time (like steer daubing and chute dogging) and I’m really excited for the Kitsap rodeo that starts tomorrow, as much as I dug my new lights I LOVE shooting outdoors. See you all soon!

Spring Crocus!

by LizStabbert on February 29, 2012

Every year I get so excited to see the first little crocuses poking up out of the ground! It seems like they’re the first color I’ve seen for months!  Of course I have to grab my camera.

Fun fact! This is actually the third year I’ve included photos of the first spring crocuses on my blog. The other posts are here and here (I really love that second one! How yummy!)

A big reason I love the crocuses so much (other than they’re pretty) is that it means that spring must be right around the corner!!

Or at least you would think it should be…but you would be wrong. Sort of. You see, today it did this:

Snow! The “s” word!! At the end of February! What the heck!

My pants are still wet from where my backside got snowed on crouching down to get these shots. I just thought I’d share that with you.

Crocuses in the snow. Pretty much the only good thing this Washingtonian can think of in relation to snow. Except for maybe horses running through snow. But that’s a photo shoot for another day.

Beloved Portrait Session – Seahurst Park {Portrait}

January 23, 2012

This session started with a question on one of my fave Facebook : “What the heck are those ‘Beloved’ sessions I’m hearing about?”  The photos I’d seen online from so called Beloved sessions were really natural and full of emotion, but any information I could find online was cryptic at best. Photographer Hannah Nielsen new a [...]

How to Take Photos in the Snow! {how to}

January 16, 2012

Snow has come to North West Washington! And whether you’re in the crowd cheering for joy or the ones curled in the corner rocking back and forth in terror, you’ve got to admit it’s pretty! Photographing your kids/critters/friends enjoying the snow can be a little tricky though, so I thought I’d put together a little [...]
